KnitBlog, post 1

I am learning to knit. Nana taught me the basic stuff over Christmas, and my ambitions are currently bigger than both my skill and my wallet.
This blog is my own personal way of tracking my progress etc. without plastering it all over my other blog/facebook, which I would otherwise be tempted to do.

So far I've done a hat that only mostly worked out (my head, I think, is smaller than most adult head sizes) and a scarf that I didn't have enough wool to finish, so it is a neck gaiter instead. I'm fairly happy with them and am ready to plunge into more complicated stuff than just knitting nice rectangles.

I had planned to make a baby blankie for my friend Allison, who just had a new baby. Blankies, as it turns out, are expensive if you want to use nice wool. Also, would probably take a fair bit of time.

So instead I'll be making a toque. Also going to make one for Tre, who also just had a baby. These should go faster and far less expensively than a blankie would.

For Allison: this one, with pink-strawberry wool.

For Tre: this one, in a dark green, since she says her baby's grandma already has half a million pastel-coloured things covered.

Going to borrow some circular and double-pointed needles from Nana to get used to using those.

So yes, this is my debut in the wonderful world of knitting. Excuse this blog's title, I couldn't think of a clever knitting/yarn pun under pressure like this. It's probably a trope in itself, even though it's not a pun.

  1. I hear you on the budget front, check out second hand stores. It takes a while to figure out which locations have the good stuff but once you do so many needles so much yarn. The issue is you are never starting a project with the proper needles or yarn and if you're lazy like me and won't knit a gauge swatch, well.....

  2. The good thing about just starting out though: I have to buy/borrow the right needles for the project, because I have nothing! Haha. I think I've got what I need for the next few things I want to do, as long as I borrow some double-pointed ones from Nana. My mum will also be happy that she can buy me knitting stuff for occasions, since I never actually want anything.

  3. Oh! Feel free to ask for needles or yarn (though I get sort of greedy with it) if you need anything in particular. :) I'm totally cool with lending out my needles if they aren't in use, and if you need some yarn, I'd be happy to be your supplier. It's like a DRUG. But not bad for your health. Just the wallet. ;)
