I've finished it up with a little knitting here and there these past few days. I think this yarn just isn't meant for patterns, it's too fluffy. Still, soft and so pretty.
Anyway. I followed the pattern's instructions instead of my intuition when it said to start the decrease early... And, like an idiot, didn't test to see how long it was when I finished/assumed it would stretch, so cast off and tied off and worked the ends in and then realised that it is not at all long enough.
I'm trying the magical 'blocking' thing I've heard/read so much about. Ha. Got it wet and nailed it out to our little tiny ironing board... Hopefully the nails don't rust while it dries. I think it's still barely long enough, but we'll see. At least the lace work is more noticeable and stretched out. We'll see how it looks dry!
If it's still not long enough I'll probably pick up the stitches and knit a little band garter stitch to sew the button to. Not ideal, but better than a non-fitting headband!
Now I can't wait to get my needles into something else... Something multi-coloured. Something like... socks? Waiting to hear if Nana has itty-bitty needles I can use. Then I'll have to head to the yarn store. Mmmm.
As far as I know blocking only works with wool and I would suspect other natural fibres. I don't believe water will help stretch plastic if you have an acrylic yarn but let me know how it goes.
ReplyDeleteHey have you discovered felting? It is super fun!
