Baking and baking accessories

I have made the cookies!

Oh my goodness, the cookies!
Brandon has named them "Yo Dawg" cookies. An apt name.

If you don't get it, don't worry. That's a good thing.
Anyway. They are pretty delicious. I made them with Golden and Double Stuff Oreos, since those were all that was available that day, and also they were two-for-one. I think the dough was a bit dry, but oh well. The first batch was consumed just after gorging ourselves on shawarma. Food comas ensued. The second batch, photographed above, I brought to work. Happy co-workers ensued. The goofy-looking star-shaped one was Brad's idea. He wanted to use the cookie cutter, disregarding my warnings that it would be pretty hard to get the dough out after he'd stuffed it in to all the points. I suppose it turned out alright though.
I think the Golden Oreos blended in nicely flavour-wise, but the stand-out quality of the Double Stuff made it a different kind of delicious. I'd make them again, though it takes a lot of dough to make... and a lot of stomach room.

But rewind a bit! I don't have an apron. I may have dropped a subtle hint to Brad that I wanted this apron around Christmas-time (Okay, so I sent him an email including the link and the word WANT!, but subtlety was never my strong point) but he didn't pick up on it, and I never got the apron. I guess I need to be less subtle?
Anyway, I have been doomed to getting flour all over my clothes every time I bake, so this time, before I even began the cookies, I resolved to make myself one.

I found a little-used pillow slip, pulled out my sewing machine and tools, and went to work. It took me about three hours, which is more hours than it should have, but I was determined, and also wanted to have trim and such. Much stitch-ripping, measuring, cutting, ironing, sewing, ironing, sewing, and ironing later, I was done. And just in time to start the cookies as D&D'ers arrived.

The results.
It's lined with the simple white lining I used with my Hallowe'en costume, trimmed with stripey details from the edge of the original pillow slip, and held together using a safety pin because the button kept falling off. I'm quite proud of it, though still feel like I'm wearing a pillow case, since that sheet set was on my bed for much of my childhood. But, should I want to make cake (ha. Ha.) while wearing my best business casual wear (something I am pretty lacking in), I can do so without worry!

And that about wraps up this domestic post. My sweater is almost almost done, I've got all of one and half of the other sleeve done. Soon. Very soon.
