He responded that a big comfy camp hoodie might be nice. I almost immediately went on a pattern search, and what I found was this:

Oh beautiful sweater! I showed it to Brad and he approves.
And I already have the EZ book with the original pattern. Hurray, I thought, this will be easy!
Not so. It's all very modular and nice, but the difficulty lies in the adaptations. The original sweater is very boxy. Good for babies, not so good for grown men. And while the creator of the above sweater has made notes available on his modifications, they are about as vague as the original pattern. Which is to say that they are detailed, but require one to figure out one's own proportions and rates of increasing and such. Ugh.
I think I might just do it, and wing the top-down cap sleeves. Half of my brain is going "how hard can it be?" while the other half is gibbering in fear.
Other mods I have in mind: add pockets of some kind, maybe an i-cord edging? And a zipper. As much as I like buttons, I know Brad would much rather a zipper. I think the i-cord would give a nice definition to the edge of the sweater and be a good solid thing to which a zipper could be attached.
I am at once excited and hesitant to begin this. It probably won't start any time too soon, but I have a mind to finish it for Christmas.
