Spring has slowly been creeping up on us (that mid-March week of abnormal summer weather is just a fond memory). Little perennials poking through here and there. The above crocuses are from the neighbour's garden. I love crocuses.

Tomatoes in the green pots, morning glories in the six packs, onions and seeds that failed to sprout in the peat. |
I spent today knitting on the porch while Brad tended the plants. The problem is that although I have plenty to knit, I have nothing to knit with!
My sweater is so close to done. I need to do the i-cord edging and add some pockets, but I ran out of yarn! And my favourite yarn store (and the only one that might have more of the same dyelot) has MOVED! Right out of town, to Smith's Falls, which is absolutely inconvenient.
In the meantime I started making a bear for my friend Allison's second baby. Her first, Alexis, was the recipient of one of my very first projects, a strawberry toque! Here's how far I got with the bear:
I'm using a ball of yarn that I saved from a curb-bound cardboard box when the previous neighbours moved out. It's soft and denim-ish, probably some kind of cotton-acrylic blend. Unfortunately my single skein was only enough for the head, one leg, and the body, even using a patch of other squeaky acrylic for the belly. That little coil by the nose is all I have left! I'll have to go on a yarn search soon. The other yarns in the box were Bernat, so I'll try my luck at Walmart (ugh).
I have also resolved to make my Nana a scarf/shawl for her birthday this year, as a thank-you for teaching me to knit. Plus, it's her 80th! I need a whole bunch of nice drapey fingering... and I certainly don't have any!
My woes will (hopefully) be resolved tomorrow. We're driving to London for the long weekend, and Smith's Falls is only slightly out of the way.
But tomorrow is not today! Today I want to sit in the sun and knit knit knit!
