Puns and Secrets

I found a clever (or not-so-clever) knitting pun/portmanteau that I have been using since I started knitting. It's pretty much what I do, so I think it's a fitting new title for this blog.

Working on a Secret Project on a deadline, we'll see how it turns out. Bought some circular needles (16", US 8 (5mm)) for it, but they're also what I need for the baby hats. They took a very little bit of getting used to, my first cast-on was SUPER TIGHT but it's better now. Probably gonna have a big gap where I join the rounds, but so it goes.

Oh knitting, you are my newest crafty obsession. I haven't had one in ages, so this is FUN.

PS: Here's the pretty yarn I bought for Secret Project. The brand is Aslan Trends, how could I resist when they make (probably unintentional) Narnia references? It's combo rabbit angora and merino, the pattern called for cashmere. Cashmere is EXPENSIVE so I went for this, it's super soft and was a lot cheaper. It's fluffing/pilling a bit as I go though, so I hope it turns out nicely! Looks good so far (the whole three rows I've done).

I've made a mess of the skein though, I don't know how to start pulling the yarn, so it's just a big loop now, strung over my chair and I keep having to unknot. Ooops.

  1. You don't pull skeins, you open them and untie the string and unwrap it (4wraps i think) and then you roll it into a ball. Unless you have the super cool ancient rolly thing-a-jig my acquaintance has from her mommy. It's a giant cross that holds the skein open and spins the thread then goes to this thing with a handle you turn and it flip-flop-rolls a perfect cylinder and u can then take the thread from the middle or outside or both at the same time. It's great and I hate skeins since I've found out about it and can't have one. You could also use brad, I get frank to be my cross shaped thing and I roll the ball. He's gotten fast and effective.

  2. Carly, if you ever need some skeins wound, I have both a swift (what you put the yarn on to wind off of) and a ball winder (that will make nice little cakes). Just let me know and I can get it done for you. :D
