Yarn Bombs are a thing I keep seeing around. The above was taken at the Winterlude Crystal Palace Enchanted Ice Garden Thing With a Fancy Title That SunLife or Rogers or American Express Probably Sponsored, so I'm pretty sure those were officially sanctioned, but I've been seeing non-official ones all over Ottawa lately.
It's a cool concept: reclaim hard, cold urban surfaces with fuzzy warm colourful knitting. It's graffiti, knit-style. It's less permanent than graffiti, but the wikipedia article says they can last a long time. Maybe they are a less offensive form of graffiti, because of this ease of removability?
I don't know. It's pretty cool, no matter what. If I had extra yarn and extra time, maybe some of the street lights around here would get some cozies. For now, though, there are too many new things to learn and new projects to do.
This is amazing! Here is a thought though. Why not do hats and scarves and wrap them around in places where the homeless frequent. You get the same thing accomplished as with the Yarn Bombs but you may also be helping someone on a cold night.
