Fingerless Gloves and Thrums

Listen, I know fingerless mittens are lovely and quick and there's no messing around with fingers or decreases for hands or anything, and I quite like them, but there are TOO MANY PATTERNS for them, and they are quite useless this time of year. MAYBE if I lived in not-Ottawa they'd be okay, but here, fingers FREEZE.

I have, however, discovered THRUMMED mittens. Brad's mum gave me a pair she knit ages ago, and the thrums are kinda worn, so there are gaps, but omigoodness they are so warm. So very warm. They do not fail in Ottawa-cold. (Which, might I add, it has hardly even been yet? -13 today, finally, and a big chunk of snow in the forecast.)

Things I want to knit include:
-slipper-sock-things to line my slightly-too-big moccasins
-a sweater
-a toque with earflaps but not dangly cords and not the kind that look like they were added on, just the gently curving type. There's a perfect one at work, except it's too deep and looks dumb on my head.
-some kind of runner thing to hang in front of my messy-looking yarn shelf
-mittens for meeeee

But these are all for me! I have to finish Project Expedition Cozies and various other Christmas knitting items. Almost done, but no time for me-knitting before then.

And just to include a picture:
Eight of the nine-and-a-half cozies I've got done so far. Need to do 14.
Also, a few things I have discovered:
1. A method of casting off that looks similar to a tubular cast-on, described in this Ask a Knitter column. This also had me realise how easy it is to do single-cross cables without a cable needle.
2. Speaking of cables, this YouTube video demonstrates a quick and easy way to do two-stitch cables without any sort of cable needle. Nice!

Okay. Back to all that knitting.
